Heartbreaking Update on UPS Crash: Death Toll Increases to 13

The tally of fatalities due to the freight aircraft which caught fire and crashed has climbed to 13, as confirmed by recent statements.

City Leader's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I was informed of a 13th person that lost their life as a consequence of the aircraft crash,” stated the municipal leader in a public communication. “My thoughts are with the relatives, companions and peers of all who were lost in this recent disaster. We will overcome this together.”

Casualties Confirmed

An announcement from the company named the flight crew aboard the aircraft as Captain Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to each employee who has been affected and all in our community region – supporting you and ensuring you get the care and assistance you need is our focus,” the organization’s message expressed.

Inquiry Updates

National authorities disclosed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing ignited and an engine fell off shortly after takeoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to fall and erupt into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board stated it is examining the plane’s service record, which was in the state for repairs several weeks prior to the incident.

Aircraft records indicated the jet was on the runway in that location from early September to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this jet was located in the facility,” remarked an NTSB member on the following day, without providing a exact time frame. “We will review all elements of repairs that was done, from the repair period, straight to the time of the journey.”

Recovery of Key Items

The audio device and information unit were found, and the engine was located on the tarmac.

The recorders – called data containers – were built to withstand accident forces and extreme temperatures from blazes, and they looked to be undamaged when discovered amid the remains. Officials intend to analyzing information from the recorders.

Jet’s concluding recorded information indicated an height of 475 feet and a speed of 210 mph before the impact.

Service History

According to Federal Aviation Administration files dated that date, a fissure on a structural piece within the center wing fuel tank required maintenance.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it supplies aircraft servicing for the company’s MD-11 and manages a service location in San Antonio, refused to comment, but said it would work closely when officials approached it.

Activities Continue

Meanwhile, UPS Worldport services resumed Wednesday night with its overnight or night sort operation, spokesperson the company official said. The three runways at the airport were also back in operation.

The sorting center in the city is the firm’s most significant. The hub employs more than twenty thousand people in the area, processes numerous trips daily and processes over four hundred thousand packages each hour.

Public Support

A gathering was held on the late afternoon of 6 November by the regional labor union, which represents employees at the airfield, the firm’s biggest freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports staff, started the vigil with a period of reflection at 5.14pm, the rough hour of the incident before.

“This incident was so unexpected, so unexpected,” the mayor told the crowd of 200. “No one had a chance to say goodbye to any of those who we have lost.”
